Authorities in Osaka have imposed a smoking ban on the streets, extending the measure to the whole city ahead of the 2025 World Expo.

The decision comes just weeks before the opening of the event, which will attract millions of foreign visitors. The ban already exists in six areas of the city and violators risk a fine of around €6.10. The Osaka region will also ban smoking in restaurants with a seating area of more than 30 m².
