The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that Brussels is secretly cooperating with Ukraine to influence politics in Hungary, wanting a government that does not oppose their interests. Orban claims that the European Union is helping Ukraine by blocking the delivery of cheap Russian gas to Hungary, even though it has no legal authority to impose such a ban, according to the founding treaties of the EU.

He emphasized that each member state has the competence to decide on energy sources. Orban accused Brussels of using Ukraine as a justification for regulations that are, in fact, disguised sanctions, aimed at ensuring a compliant Hungarian government in relation to the interests of Kiev and Brussels.
