The South Korean Minister of Defense, Ahn Gyu-back, stated that North Korea would have a nuclear arsenal larger than the figure of 57 nuclear weapons recently mentioned by American President Donald Trump.
Ahn presented an estimate between 80 and 120 nuclear warheads in front of South Korean lawmakers, emphasizing that this is the general assessment used by authorities in Seoul.
This statement comes in the context of Trump confirming his intention to meet again with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, possibly in November, on the sidelines of the APEC summit in China. Although Trump has criticized the development of the North Korean nuclear program, he mentioned that his relationship with Kim remains good.
Despite the dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang, North Korea continues to expand and develop its nuclear arsenal, being considered a major threat to regional and international security. Estimates regarding the exact size of the North Korean arsenal vary due to the lack of public and verifiable data.
