According to the new regulations in Bulgaria, any increase in the prices of goods or services must be economically justified.
The supervisory authorities will assess the extent and circumstances of the increase, setting a deadline for traders to prove the economic reasons. Justification will be made by comparing the price increase with changes in relevant costs. Traders with an annual turnover of over 25 million euros are required to publicly disclose daily the prices of goods from the 'large basket of consumer products' on their websites.
The Consumer Protection Commission will create an online portal for publishing these prices. Penalties for unjustified increases range between 1,000 and 100,000 euros, and non-compliance with reporting requirements can attract fines of up to 50,000 euros.
The amendments will come into force on August 9, 2026, and will be applicable for one year.
