Roman Gofman will replace David Barnea, whose term ends in June 2026. Gofman, born in Belarus and arriving in Israel at the age of 14, has a military career that began in 1995, having been injured in the fight against Hamas during the attack on October 7, 2023. Although he has no experience in espionage, his appointment reflects loyalty to Netanyahu and nationalist ideas. Critics, such as columnist Uri Misgav, believe that Gofman is unfit to lead Mossad. Although the intelligence service was not directly affected by the October attack, it has a solid reputation, having made significant contributions in recent conflicts.
