Nawrocki, a right-wing populist and eurosceptic, won the presidential election in a close run-off and will officially take office on August 6. Although he is in no hurry to meet Prime Minister Donald Tusk, whom he considers weak, he emphasizes the need for cooperation between the institutions. Tusk, the leader of the centrist government, recently carried out a government reshuffle to shore up his support. Nawrocki's tenure is expected to be tense, as he has the power to veto legislative initiatives, which could affect Poland's position in the EU and NATO.
