At least five countries on NATO's eastern flank, including Romania, are requesting American troops, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of 5,000 soldiers from Germany. Romania, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia express their desire to host more American troops, citing the support provided by the U.S. in the war against Iran. Sorin Moldovan, Deputy Minister of Defense of Romania, emphasized the need for a stronger American presence. Additionally, leaders from Poland and Lithuania have made similar appeals. This request comes amid tensions with Russia, and American troops are seen as a deterrent factor. Although Trump mentioned the possibility of relocating troops to Poland, the internal political realities and the capacity to host these troops in various countries could complicate the implementation of these plans. Furthermore, officials on the eastern flank have not yet received concrete details about potential changes to the American presence.
