An alarming scenario is being evaluated by NATO experts, who believe that a ceasefire in Ukraine could represent a dangerous trap for the member states of the alliance.

According to The Kyiv Independent, such a ceasefire would provide Ukraine with a necessary break, but would allow Russia to regroup and modernize its armed forces, thus increasing the threat to neighboring countries, especially those near the Baltic and Nordic borders. Currently, Russia is modernizing its military infrastructure, and NATO experts are analyzing its capacity to launch attacks. The NATO summit in Ankara, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, will gather the leaders of the 32 member states, including the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to discuss military commitments and emerging risks.

Warnings suggest that Russia may be preparing provocations against the Baltic states or Poland, and a large-scale invasion could become a serious threat in the next two to five years, following a ceasefire.
