In front of the German parliament, CDU leader Merz stated that Europe will not be intimidated by threats of tariffs, referring to recent comments by American President Donald Trump regarding Greenland.

Merz emphasized the importance of European leaders projecting power and European values in the context of global trade tensions and the war between Russia and Ukraine. He warned about the emergence of a world of great powers and stressed that rules-based actions and fair trade are essential.

The German Chancellor highlighted EU unity in the face of tariff threats and presented trade agreements with Mercosur and India as examples of progress. He also defended the sacrifices of German soldiers in Afghanistan, emphasizing that their mission will not be minimized.
