The protests in Slovakia, organized by the opposition party Progressive Slovakia, gathered up to 18,000 people in front of the government in Bratislava. People are contesting recent austerity measures, which include increases in health insurance contributions and higher taxes, claiming that they particularly affect ordinary citizens. Fico's government argues that the measures are necessary to reduce the budget deficit, which exceeds the limits imposed by the EU.
