On Wednesday, 18,000 residents of Dresden, Germany, must evacuate a central area after the discovery of an unexploded British bomb from World War II, weighing 250 kilograms. The bomb was found near the former Carola Bridge, which collapsed into the Elbe River in 2024. The police have isolated the evacuation area, and the defusing operation will begin after all residents leave the perimeter.

Authorities are providing emergency accommodation at the Exhibition Center in Dresden and additional transport for evacuees. This is the largest evacuation in the city's history for such an incident, with the affected area extending 1,000 meters around the discovery site. Dresden suffered British air raids in February 1945, when nearly 4,000 tons of bombs were dropped.
