NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, stated that the recent incident in which an Iranian missile was shot down by NATO's air defense, near Turkish airspace, is 'serious', but emphasized that there is no discussion about Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, which provides for collective defense. Rutte stated that this incident demonstrates NATO's vigilance and strength, highlighting that adversaries must understand that the Alliance is ready to respond.
He also mentioned that Iran is 'close' to becoming a threat to Europe and expressed support for U.S. actions to eliminate Tehran's nuclear and ballistic capabilities. The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces denied the accusations of launching missiles at Turkey, stating that they respect its sovereignty.
