During a visit to Croatia, Mark Rutte, the NATO Secretary General, avoided commenting on Donald Trump's statements regarding Greenland, but praised his approach within the Alliance. Rutte emphasized that Trump 'is doing the right things' by pressuring European allies to increase defense spending, mentioning that without his influence, the summit in The Hague would not have led to an increase in the defense spending threshold to 5% of GDP.

Rutte also highlighted the importance of collaboration among allies in the Arctic region and mentioned that Denmark is accelerating investments in defense. He stressed the need to remain secure against threats from Russia and other adversaries, including China and North Korea, reaffirming NATO's commitment to work together for security.
