Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, emphasized during a hearing in a parliamentary committee the increased risk of escalation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, following a Ukrainian drone attack on targets in St. Petersburg. He noted that Ukraine has become more effective in carrying out attacks on Russian territory, which amplifies the danger.

Rubio mentioned that currently, neither side is willing to make concessions to restore peace, especially Russia. He also acknowledged that the prospects for a peace agreement are not promising. Despite criticism from Democratic allies regarding the temporary exemption of Russian oil from sanctions, Rubio reaffirmed the United States' commitment to support Ukraine and to play an active role in trying to bring the conflict to a conclusion.
