In an interview, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that French President Emmanuel Macron is partly responsible for the failure of the ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas. Rubio believes that Macron's announcement that he recognizes a Palestinian state gave Hamas a sense of support, allowing them to refuse a deal with Israel. The decision also prompted other countries to consider recognizing Palestine, complicating the peace process. Macron has stressed the need to demilitarize Hamas and Palestinian recognition of Israel, but prospects for a truce now seem remote.
