The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission announced on Thursday that it will require TikTok to provide explanations regarding false content targeting King Ibrahim Iskandar.
The authority found that the platform failed to quickly remove defamatory content, deemed extremely offensive and threatening. Among the reported issues is the use of artificial intelligence and a fake account claiming to be that of the king. The commission emphasized that this type of content can undermine public order and respect for institutions.
TikTok has received a legal notice requesting explanations and measures for content moderation. In the context of Malaysia tightening regulations for social networks, authorities aim to maintain a safe and respectful online environment, acting against harmful content and scams.
