The Assembly of Experts, responsible for appointing the next supreme leader of Iran, has declared that it has reached a majority consensus regarding the successor of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Ayatollah Mohammadmehdi Mirbaqeri mentioned, however, that there are "some obstacles" that need to be overcome in this process. A disagreement has arisen regarding the method of making the final decision, whether it should be the result of a face-to-face meeting or can be issued without this formality.
After the killing of Ali Khamenei following the joint attacks of the USA and Israel, the Assembly of Experts in Iran was quickly convened to appoint a new supreme leader, but its headquarters was hit during the appointment process.
Currently, the interim power is exercised by President Masoud Pezeshkian. Although there was a "first appointment" of Mojtaba Khamenei, this was considered only a preliminary meeting.
