Igor Laptev, a retired major general of the FSB, was found dead in his office in Moscow on August 20, with a gunshot wound to the head.
At the age of 83, Laptev led the board of the 'Informtehnika' group, which develops integrated secure communication systems for the Ministry of Defense and other institutions. Unofficial sources suggest that he may have committed suicide. Laptev began his career in the KGB in 1971, playing a role in the complex defense issues of the USSR, and participated in the battles in Afghanistan.
He also had connections with Aleksandr Ogloblin, former head of the General Communications Directorate, who was convicted of corruption. The information about his death has not been officially confirmed, and the circumstances remain unclear.
