Colonel Michael Randrianirina is set to officially take over as the interim president of Madagascar, following the flight of former president Andry Rajoelina. The new leader has announced plans to govern the country for 18-24 months, during which elections are expected to take place. Randrianirina's takeover of power came after weeks of protests against Rajoelina, led by youth groups that have self-styled themselves as 'Gen Z Madagascar.'
