The announcement of the resignation came immediately after the parliament voted for his dismissal, after which Rajoelina fled the country. Colonel Michael Randrianirina stated to reporters that the army will form a council composed of army officers and police forces. This action seems to signal the end of Rajoelina's seven years of leadership of the country.
