French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a video conference on Thursday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other European leaders to maintain pressure on measures restricting young people's access to social networks. Leaders from Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and Ireland will participate in the meeting, and the European Commissioner for Digital Sovereignty, Henna Virkkunen, is also expected.
In France, a bill that prohibits access to social networks for young people under 15 is in the process of being adopted, but it requires parliamentary approval and the European Commission's consent. Macron seeks a coordinated mobilization of European countries to harmonize age verification tools and establish a common age threshold. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the Digital Services Regulation, recently discussed at the Elysee Palace.
