French President Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency cabinet meeting on Thursday to address two important topics: the intention of American President Donald Trump to purchase Greenland and the violent repression of protests in Iran. Macron announced on platform X that a first group of French soldiers is heading to Greenland to participate in a joint exercise with Denmark. The crisis meeting was confirmed by a French official and began at 07:00 GMT. In a show of support for Denmark and Nuuk, other allied countries, such as Germany, Norway, and Sweden, have started sending troops to Greenland. Macron emphasized that France will participate in the joint exercises, and the first French consulate in Greenland will be opened on February 6, according to statements by Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
