Emmanuel Macron declared that France will increase the number of nuclear warheads and will build a nuclear submarine

In a speech at the naval base Île Longue in Brest, Emmanuel Macron announced a significant change in France's nuclear doctrine, ordering an increase in the number of nuclear warheads in the national arsenal. He emphasized that France will no longer disclose figures regarding its nuclear arsenal, adopting a "strict sufficiency" approach to nuclear deterrence.

Justifying this decision by the increased instability in the Middle East, Macron highlighted the importance of modernizing the arsenal, announcing the construction of a nuclear ballistic missile submarine, named "Invincible," which will be launched in 2036.

Macron highlighted the role of French nuclear deterrence in the context of European security, mentioning the participation of British officials in French strategic exercises, marking a new phase of "advanced deterrence." This approach will allow European allies to participate in deterrence exercises, thus strengthening collective defense and providing strategic depth in the face of security challenges in Europe.
