In an interview with Time magazine, Lukashenko said he has no plans to step down as president, even though he has an additional term under the constitution. Although he admitted he might not have run previously, he felt the people supported him. On succession, he denied that his son Mikola would be a possible successor, saying the next president might have a different policy. Lukashenko has ruled Belarus for 31 years, and elections in 2025 are expected to reconfirm his power.
