The Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko announced that Belarus is negotiating a 'major agreement' with the United States, aimed at the 'definitive normalization' of bilateral relations. The statements were made after the meeting with Donald Trump's envoy, John Cole, and come in the context of the release of 250 political prisoners from Belarusian prisons.

Washington has lifted sanctions on the Belarusian Ministry of Finance and two banks, and Lukashenko has conveyed relevant proposals, including issues related to 'nuclear materials' held by Belarus. The agreement could include the reopening of embassies in Minsk and Washington, but it is viewed with skepticism by the opposition in Belarus, which believes that Lukashenko's regime remains under the influence of Vladimir Putin.
