The Lithuanian government announced the reopening of border crossing points with Belarus, after a temporary closure caused by incidents related to weather balloons that affected air traffic. These incidents were characterized by the authorities in Vilnius as 'hybrid attacks'. The border closure was decided nearly a month ago in response to repeated crossings of balloons from Belarus, which led to the temporary closure of Vilnius airport.
Although it is unclear when the crossing points will actually be reopened, the government confirmed that the restrictions will be lifted. Initially, Lithuania announced that the border would remain closed until the end of November. Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė accused Belarus of inaction, while Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko called the border closure a 'crazy scam'.
