The government of Liberia has announced that it will accept up to 1,200 foreigners expelled from the United States, as part of an unprecedented program by President Donald Trump. The first 20 expelled individuals will arrive in Liberia on Thursday, where they will have the freedom to leave the country or apply for asylum.

The program aims to expel foreigners without documents to third countries, and Liberia thus becomes a destination for them. Trump has expanded the number of individuals eligible for expulsion, particularly targeting those who benefit from previous legal protections.

Although the United States cannot send these individuals back to their countries of origin, they can be transferred to other countries. The Liberian government emphasized that it did not request compensation for receiving the expelled individuals, presenting the agreement as a humanitarian one and stating that it will receive support for managing migration.
