In a government meeting, Lee stated that, although it was not the intention of the South Korean government, he regrets the unnecessary military tensions caused by these reckless acts. The incident occurred a few months ago when Pyongyang announced that it had shot down a drone equipped with surveillance equipment near the city of Kaesong, a few kilometers from the inter-Korean border. Lee mentioned that three South Korean civilians have been charged and that the incident involved an official from the National Intelligence Service and an active soldier. Although Lee Jae Myung expressed a desire to resume dialogue with North Korea, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has so far rejected reconciliation proposals, considering Seoul to be 'the most hostile enemy'. The two states have never signed a peace treaty after the Korean War, which ended with an armistice.
