In an interview with AFP, Lech Walesa, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, discussed the controversial perception of American President Donald Trump in the context of the war in Ukraine. Walesa suggests that, although Trump may seem a 'traitor' to the Ukrainian cause due to his conciliatory attitude towards Vladimir Putin, he could actually be an 'exceptional leader' seeking to avoid a nuclear conflict.
The former Polish president emphasizes that if the United States were to adopt an anti-Putin stance, this could lead Russia to resort to nuclear weapons. Walesa states that Trump is playing a complex game, buying time and forcing Europe to organize against Russia without direct U.S. involvement. He concludes that there are two perspectives on Trump's actions: either he is a traitor, or an extremely intelligent man, leaving the question open about his true intentions.
