The Kremlin stated that the Christmas truce proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be conditioned on the conclusion of a peace agreement. Zelensky supported the idea of a truce, especially to protect energy infrastructure during the holiday season. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia will not participate in a truce if Ukraine continues to seek short-term, unviable solutions.

Peskov emphasized Russia's desire to stop the war and achieve lasting peace in Europe, mentioning that Moscow has not received details about the security guarantees proposals for Ukraine, recently accepted by American and European officials.
