This statement comes in the context of a defense agreement signed between the two countries following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. North Korea has sent troops and weapon systems to support the Russian war effort, receiving in return financial aid, food, and military technology. Kim emphasized the close cooperation between the two nations for the defense of their sovereignty. Information from South Korean and Western sources suggests that thousands of North Korean soldiers have been deployed in Russia, and the conflict has led to significant loss of life. Additionally, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will make an official visit to North Korea to strengthen bilateral relations, considering that Belarus is another ally of Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
