Kim Jong Un made statements in Nampo, at the commissioning ceremony of the warship Choe Hyon, emphasizing that the Navy's nuclear armament program continues on course as planned. He highlighted the importance of this program for maintaining North Korea's nuclear force, which will enable the conduct of "diverse and efficient operations."
Kim announced that Choe Hyon is equipped with "the most powerful weaponry" and promised that, after this, the destroyer Kang Kon will be commissioned, followed by other strategic vessels. The dictator stated that the North Korean Navy will build two superior ships annually, including a 10,000-ton cruiser.
During a meeting of the Workers' Party, he emphasized the need to strengthen defense capabilities in the face of the military modernization of South Korea and the United States, warning that they are pushing the region towards nuclear war. North Korea considers itself an "irreversible nuclear state" after the failure of negotiations with the U.S. in 2019. The two Koreas remain in a state of war, separated by a Demilitarized Zone.
