Kiev has said it is open to freezing the front line at current positions in order to conclude a truce, but refuses to cede areas it controls in Donetsk. This agreement would involve maintaining the status quo but ceding control of Russian-occupied territories in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhe, Herson and Crimea. Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed a meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump in Alaska on August 15 to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
