The Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, sent a message of gratitude to the Iraqi people for their support in the war against the USA and Israel, according to Iranian state media.
This statement was made more than three weeks after his appointment to office, a period during which Khamenei has not been seen or heard in public, after he was reportedly injured in an airstrike that resulted in the death of his father, former Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other family members. The message was conveyed to an Iraqi official, and speculation about Khamenei's health has been fueled by statements from Donald Trump, who suggested that he might be dead or seriously injured. Iran's ambassador to the UN explained his absence by citing security reasons.
