An important member of the ShinyHunters hacker group, Saif al-Din Khader, known by the alleged pseudonym “Rey,” was detained on Tuesday in Jordan, according to sources cited by Reuters. Authorities suspect that he is part of the group specializing in data theft and cyber extortion.
Three people familiar with the situation confirmed the detention, and two of them said that the suspect is cooperating with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other international authorities to identify the group’s remaining members.
The FBI did not comment on operations conducted abroad, but said it is investigating the latest incident associated with ShinyHunters “aggressively.” The agency stated that it has already cooperated with partners to arrest several suspects and that it will continue efforts to bring all those responsible to justice.
On September 22, the group claimed that it had accessed FBI systems and stolen sensitive data about agents and job applicants. The hackers said that the attack was not financially motivated and demanded the withdrawal of a notice published by the FBI in May 2026 describing the group’s methods. The evidence they presented has not been independently confirmed.
