Katie Zacharia was removed on Friday from her position as White House spokesperson, just five days after her appointment and following a single press briefing. The Donald Trump administration announced that she would take on another position, which is to be determined later.
Her departure came after a week of negative coverage of her debut and the way she presented her legal career. At her first press briefing, held on Tuesday, Zacharia read largely from a prepared text and answered questions for approximately five and a half minutes.
Subsequently, the American press questioned her use of the term “attorney,” as Zacharia had not passed the bar exam. She made tense appearances on Fox News, where she was asked why she had not told the president this before her appointment.
Donald Trump suggested on Friday, during a discussion with reporters, that Zacharia should reconsider her position. The White House communications director then confirmed the change. In a message posted on social media, Zacharia said it had been an honor to work for Trump. Her tenure is considered one of the shortest in the history of the position.
