JD Vance, the American vice president, stated that European leaders should take President Donald Trump's intentions to purchase Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, seriously. Vance emphasized that the United States considers Greenland a strategic area and that its security is not sufficiently appreciated by Europeans. Trump has expressed interest in buying Greenland for its natural resources and has created tensions within NATO, even suggesting the use of force to obtain the territory. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump is actively exploring the possibility of the purchase, mentioning that it would help the U.S. counter the aggression of Russia and China in the Arctic region. Greenland, with a population of about 56,000 residents, has an economy dependent on the Danish government and significant natural resources. Denmark has categorically rejected the idea of ceding Greenland, and European allies have stated that the security of the Arctic region is a priority for Europe.
