Javier Milei has signed a decree expanding the powers of Argentina's federal police, inspired by the model of the American FBI. It allows suspects to be detained without a warrant for up to ten hours, searches without the consent of a judge and the ostentatious use of weapons. Police can also monitor digital spaces without authorization. The NGO Correpi warns that this decree affects democratic freedoms and allows the police to decide unilaterally on investigations.
