Japan intends to participate in the Golden Dome initiative, an advanced missile defense system aimed at protecting the nation from aerial attacks, including through interceptors and space sensors. This discussion will take place between Japanese officials and Donald Trump on March 19 in Washington, according to anonymous sources cited by Yomiuri.
The goal is the joint development of interceptors and a network of satellites to counter hypersonic glide vehicles (HGV) developed by China and Russia, capable of flying at speeds of at least Mach 5. Japan is thus strengthening its self-defense capabilities, in the context of a more active defense policy, doubling its military spending to 2% of GDP and approving a record budget of 9 trillion yen for defense.
