Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, announced the appointment of Janice Charette as chief negotiator for the trade relationship with the United States, according to CTV News. Charette will serve as the main advisor to Carney and to the minister responsible for Canada-U.S. trade, Dominic LeBlanc, in the context of the review of the North American trade agreement CUSMA. The trade relationship with the U.S. is crucial for the Canadian economy, considering that approximately 70% of Canada's exports are directed towards this country. Mark Carney emphasized Charette's extensive experience, which includes four decades in public policy and diplomacy, and mentioned that her goal will be to strengthen trade and investment relations between the two countries. Janice Charette has also served as head of the federal public administration of Canada twice, being a key figure in the Canadian government.
