The Italian Competition and Market Authority has announced the extension of an investigation opened in July, regarding the integration of Meta's artificial intelligence solution into WhatsApp, without the option for users to disable it. Meta has decided to block the operation of chatbots developed by other companies, including ChatGPT, which has raised concerns about hindering competition on the world's largest communication platform. In its defense, Meta argues that blocking third-party chatbots is necessary to prevent a "severe overload of the systems." The Italian authority indicated that it could impose interim remedial measures before the investigation is completed.
