Italy clarified that the 13.5 billion euro project for the construction of the bridge over the Strait of Messina will not use funds intended for defense, contrary to some recent speculation. The US ambassador to NATO raised the question of whether European defense spending could include such projects. The Ministry of Transport emphasized that the bridge is fully funded from state resources, without allocations from the defense budget, and that the recently approved project will be completed in 2032.
