Israel announced the recovery of the body of Ilan Weiss, kidnapped and killed by Hamas in October 2023. 49 hostages remain in Gaza, of which it is believed that only 20 are alive.

Ilan Weiss, an Israeli hostage kidnapped on October 7, 2023, from the Be'eri kibbutz, has been recovered by Israeli forces from Gaza, after being killed during the Hamas attack. His wife and daughter were also kidnapped but were later released. Following the recovery of the body, Israel confirmed that 49 hostages remain in Gaza, and the Israeli Embassy in Bucharest expressed condolences to Weiss's family. The identity of other recovered remains has not yet been disclosed.
