The attack on Mashhad airport in northeastern Iran is the most far-reaching strike by the Israeli Air Force since operations began. The Israeli military said the action was aimed at gaining air superiority throughout the region. Fires from the attack were visible at the airport, and the strike is being compared to a similar 1985 attack on the PLO headquarters in Tunisia, which was more than 2,000 kilometers from Israel.
