The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, reacted vehemently after the European Union decided to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the list of terrorist organizations. Araghchi stated that Iran could consider the armies of EU countries as terrorist groups, warning that European states "will regret" this decision. He emphasized that the IRGC has played an essential role in combating the jihadist group Islamic State (ISIS) and accused European actions of exacerbating regional tensions.
Additionally, the General Staff of the Iranian army warned that the EU's decision will have negative consequences for European decision-makers. This designation came following the crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran, which resulted in thousands of deaths, according to human rights organizations.
