The traffic code in Iran has been amended, officially granting women the permission to drive two-wheeled vehicles, such as motorcycles and scooters. Previously, the law did not prohibit them from driving, but considered them guilty in the event of an accident, even when they were victims.

A resolution from the Vice President of Iran now requires traffic police to organize training courses, exams, and to issue driving licenses for women. This change comes amid massive protests in Iran, triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, when women began to demand their rights and freedoms that have been restricted since the Islamic revolution of 1979. The measure is interpreted as an attempt to ease social tensions in the country.
