The public television broadcaster RUV from Iceland has announced that it will not participate in the Eurovision 2026 contest, scheduled to take place in Vienna, as a reaction to the decision of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to allow Israel's participation.

This decision has generated protests from several countries, including Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia, which withdrew in disapproval of Israel's behavior in the Gaza conflict. RUV director Stefan Eiriksson emphasized that Iceland's participation would not have been well received by the local public. Although Iceland has never won Eurovision, it achieved second place in 1999 and 2009. EBU decided not to hold a vote regarding Israel's participation, citing new rules to prevent governmental influences on the competition.
