Hurricane Erick severely affected southern Mexico, killing two people, including a man electrocuted and a child swept away. Although it weakened in intensity and was downgraded to a tropical storm, authorities remain on alert because of the risk of flooding and landslides. Areas of Oaxaca have suffered considerable damage and meteorologists warn that heavy rains will continue.
