The member states of the European Union have approved the opening of a new stage of accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, marking a new progress in the European integration process of the two countries.
The European Commission and the authorities in Kyiv have requested the opening of all remaining negotiation groups before the summer vacation, in order to accelerate the accession process. In this context, the opening of the sixth negotiation cluster, dedicated to external relations and security policy, has been agreed upon.
The decision is linked to the approval of an "evaluation letter", a document that confirms the completion of the assessment process of the compatibility of the legislation of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with European Union legislation in the relevant area.
The official approval of the opening of the cluster is expected on July 13, and the intergovernmental opening conference is scheduled for July 14.
