Hungary has offered to assist the regime in Iran following the Israeli attack that caused the explosion of Hezbollah's pagers, according to a leaked phone conversation reported in the press. in an interview with the Washington Post, it was revealed that Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto contacted his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, offering support and information regarding the investigation into the attack on September 17, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 12 people. This offer of assistance has sparked controversy, considering that Hungary officially supports Israel, and the Trump administration backs Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's re-election campaign. Szijjarto emphasized that Hungary was not involved in the attack and that the pagers were not manufactured in the country, but its willingness to collaborate with Iran raises questions about Orbán's government's political alignments, especially in the context of relations with Moscow, which has a long-standing alliance with Iran. A former White House official commented that this behavior contradicts Hungary's policy of supporting Israel, highlighting that Hungary is one of the few countries that consistently votes alongside the U.S. on international issues.
